Hire Me Graphics

Who ever said your CV/ Resume had to be boring and text driven? I truly think we could all benefit from info graphics in this way. Perhaps my newly designed CV is a bit of an over kill for an accountant or project manager, etc. However, if it was styled down to the basics I believe your potential employer would greatly appreciate the usability and clear and concise visuals. And we need to do what we can in this economy to get noticed.

In fact I’m not entirely sure why our CV’s/ resumes need to even be in a printable size anymore. Need I say because of email, ipad, the web, iphone, etc. My own design was purely intended to be viewed on-screen only. <ding!> Further to that, imagine an interactive CV! Maybe that will be the next step down the road when I become fluent in action script.

I am personally hoping this one can’t be ignored though. Please ask me for a copy if you would like the full version.

Cheers!

My Design For You Is Never Ending

Well why not come back with a bang. Sorry for my terrible silence here. I thought it would be appropriate, with the extreme build up of Valentine’s Day and the inevitable lull of pink and red, to add my own love tribute to design. Simply replace “love” in some of the famous and commonly used love sayings and you have a remarkable list of design-isms. I’m thinking of doing some of these in calligraphy, not sure what it will be yet but I think it would be fitting.

<3

1. Design means never having to say you’re sorry.

2. Design builds bridges where there are none.

3. Design can sometimes be magic. But magic can sometimes…just be an illusion.

4. Design is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.

5. Design is like the sun coming out of the clouds and warming your soul.

6. Life without Design is like a tree without fruit.

7. Only Design let’s us see normal things in an extraordinary way.

8. Design waits for one thing, the right moment.

9. Design bears it out even to the edge of doom.

10. We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great Design.

For the Love of Screen Printing

One of the reasons I started this blog was for the simple satisfaction of sharing my new discoveries within the design world as I experience them. And if not, then for the selfish reason of  having a detailed time line of my own growth and being able to look back for inspiration in the present. Learning about Letterpress in my “Letterpress: Labor of Love” blog post, was an experience that has significantly enhanced my appreciation and understanding of design history, and also the modernization of such historic practices which reference type setting or indeed reinvent the practice. The same is true when I learned screen printing. Read More »

My Very Own Letterpress Business Card

This was very much like Christmas morning for me today when I was opening this package. And here it is in all its glory. I had to create a post just to showcase this beautiful printed letterpress piece and give credit to Ink on Paper. If you’re in the UK and would like a personal touch and care to your business cards, Simon is the guy to get the job done. He cares more about the quality of work and wants both the customers satisfaction and his own on each job. He also prints on plastic and various other special touches other than letterpress. Very reasonable cost as well!
